| Farm School Mission |
The Farm School teaches children to think creatively and critically. We emphasize self-directed experiential learning, shared responsibility, and the development of life-long learning skills. Our curriculum promotes academic, social, and emotional growth in a multi-age classroom environment.
Academic Excellence
We foster a delight in learning. Through hands-on problem-based learning our students become active self-teachers. Through individualized developmentally-appropriate instruction and self-directed inquiries, students learn to think like artists and scholars. We emphasize multiple approaches to problem solving and deep conceptual understanding as lifelong learning skills.
Personal Maturity
Students develop self-knowledge, confidence, and independence through constructive conflict resolution and daily opportunities to practice leadership and teambuilding. By acknowledging and respecting each individual's uniqueness, students learn tolerance, respect, and empathy. We empower students and build self-confidence.
Creativity
We promote creative thinking beyond the mastery of specific skills. Whether in artistic or academic endeavors, we encourage students to evaluate knowledge according to their own vision and intuition. This builds personal confidence and pride in academic efforts.
Social and Environmental Responsibility
Our students learn that they have responsibilities to the social and natural worlds around us. We offer service opportunities to build compassionate and engaged community members and we seek to include students from diverse racial, economic, and social backgrounds.
Outreach
Recognizing the need for innovative thinkers, we offer training in our teaching methods to other schools and educators.
